Power Problems
Q : Power Failure / Cause :
A : Lightning Strikes,Downed power lines,Grid over demands,Natural disasters,Accidents , Effect : System crashes
Q :Power Surge (SPike) / Cause :
A : Triggered that staurtup of large loads,Utility Switching , Utility equipment failure /
Effect: System Crashes,Damage hardware
Q :Undervoltage ((Brownout) / Cause) :
A :Can be caused by a lightning strike and can send line voltages to levels
in excess of 5000 volts.
Effect: A spike almost always results in data loss or hardware damage.
Q :Overvoltage / Cause :
A :Can be caused by International utility voltage reduction to conserve power
during peak demand periods.
Effect: Computer systems can experience data corruption, dataloss and
premature hardware failure
Q :Noise / Cause :
A :Can be caused by either RFI or EMI interface generated by transmitters, welding devices,
SCR driven pronters, Lightning etc.
Effect: May cause data loss. hardware damage or reduce life expectancy electronic
components.
Q :Variation / Cause :
A :Resulting from generator or small co-generation sites being loaded
and unloaded.
Effect: May cause electric behavior in some equipment, memory loss,
data error , data loss and component stress.
Q :Transient / Cause :
A :Normal duration is shorter than a spike and generally falls in the range of nanoseconds
Effect: May cause eratic behavior in some equipment, memory loss, data error ,
data loss and component stress
Q :Harmonic Disortion / Cause :
A :Distortion of the normal line Waveform, generally transmitted by non-linear loads.
Switching mode power supplies, variable speed motors and drives copiers and fax machine are
examples of non-linear loads
Effect: Can cause communication errors, overheating and hardware damage.
